Meissen Fine Art Role: Research + Copy
Design: The Gaabs & MEISSEN
The Limited Masterworks collection presents annual reissues of exceptional porcelain pieces that have shaped Meissen’s legacy over centuries.
Task: As part of their editorial team, I was responsible for historical research, concept development, and copywriting for their Fine Art catalogues.
Appraoch:
Drawing from Meissen’s extensive archive and independent historical volumes, I researched the provenance and stories surrounding each piece and its creation, highlighting exceptional details to appeal to both seasoned collectors and new luxury consumers.
By focusing on compelling storytelling in both German and English, my goal was to inform and reflect the brand's centuries-old international renown while offering an entry point for less-versed readers.
Context:
Since its founding in 1710, Meissen has brought forth some of the most revered porcelain artists of their time, whose masterpieces are still recreated in the manufactory workshops using the same artisanal techniques to this day. These masterpieces not only reflect the immense breadth of artistic eras but also the creativity and artistic inquisitiveness that continue to drive Meissen's work. A legacy unrivaled anywhere in the world.
Meissen can draw on the world’s oldest and most comprehensive archive of historic models and plaster molds, making it possible to reproduce practically any form or figurine ever created by the manufactory. Every piece is a part of the unique cultural heritage safeguarded at Meissen.
